So, while on our trip, I visited two scrapbooking stores (one was like five types of crafts in one store) and spoke with the owners, because you know, I love to talk to people.
The owner of the store in Eau Claire (next to my hometown) told me that her customers do not like detailed or futzy. In classes, even the bows have to be pre-tied and all titles/designs that they cut in the store have to have all their layers glued together before they go on the floor to be sold. Intricate dies are almost non-existent in that store.
That really bugged me. I love to put stuff together and feel that using all premade stuff is cheating.
Am I that strange?
How much premade stuff do you use?

I know that in some classes I have taught, I have been known to precut things, but for the most part the idea of learning is by doing and how are you going to learn to do it on your own if someone else does it for you

I like doing it myself, and many times I don't do it the way the sample is....

I have to say that store owner knows her customers very well. What works for her may not work in other areas/stores. I am all for having pre-made if I am in a hurry. I however like to make my own embellishments and like Pat I sometimes do it much differently than the instructions call for. There are a lot of people who claim to be scrapbookers that fit the description of her customers. I don't do cutesy but I will do futzy if it is Tim Holtz Style!
